Bringing Your Greyhound Racer Home
When you bring your Greyhound racer home there is a 2-3 week
adjustment period. Things that will be new to your new pet is
stairs other pets, glass doors and new sights like themselves
in mirrors and noises like the Television. Your Greyhound racer
will probably be a bit nervous at first and may pant, whine
and pace but be patient this will pass. Let your Greyhound explore
it’s surroundings and get accustomed to it’s new home. Put tape
on any glass doors so that they don’t bump into it, show your
Greyhound the door by gently pressing it’s nose against it and
pat it with your hand to show that it is solid.
Introduce other pets to your Greyhound racer slowly, have the
pets in different rooms initially so they can get used to each
other’s smells. You can slowly introduce them at intervals making
sure they have a quick exit if they need it. The Greyhound will
know that he is Johnny Come Lately and will respect the other
pet’s territory but give the pets the time and space they need
to get used to each other. It may take a little time but they
will adjust.
Keep trash in a container with a secure lid or behind a closed
cabinet door. Food on a table that is at nose level can be very
tempting until you’ve trained your Greyhound racer not to steal
or beg, it is a good idea not to leave food where they can get
at it. When leaving, open your blinds or curtains so your Greyhound
can see you go otherwise the curtains or blinds may be in shreds
when you get back. Stairs can also be a challenge for many racers.

stairs see the Article -Helping Your Adopted Greyhound Racer
Negotiate Stairs.
