Dog Collars

Your Greyhound needs and deserves something special when it comes to dog collars and dog tags.  Dog collars and dog tags are just a few of the essentials that you will need to purchase for your Greyhound. Because of the breeds slender neck and narrow head standard dog collars that work for most dogs would not always be appropriate for the Greyhound.  A dog collar made out of a soft material is preferable to the standard leather collar. A collar made of a coarser material like leather will wear the fur off of the delicate under side of their necks. A wider fabric, choke style, collar is safer for walking in public because the Greyhound's narrow head enables it to pull out of a standard collar if it becomes startled. A soft buckle collar is fine around the house if preferred but like most dogs a break from wearing a collar and a nice rub around the neck is a relief and allows the skin to breathe. Don’t forget to attach a dog tag to the collar for identification, dog tags should contain your name, your dog's name and your phone number and/or contact information in case your Greyhound goes missing. You may even consider getting an ear tattoo as an identification mark. If you have an adopted dog they will most likely already have this identification.  Special dog collars for Greyhounds with sheep skin lining can be ordered or made and dog tags can be ordered at most pet supply stores or on line. Collars are available in a variety of fun colours and tags in a large variety of shapes, colours and materials, including gold. Shopping for dogs today is a far cry from what it was a few years ago, you’ll have as much fun pampering your pooch as you do yourself.
