Tumor Near the Greyhound Dog's Eye
We had adopted a great dog…and English greyhound called Coldplay…an ex-racer...this dog has been very well behaved and adapt very well to our life style and small home we live in a condo…we take him for walk everyday and once or twice a month we take him to either the beach or the farm…we really care for him…and because of that is that we would like to ask about something.
About two month ago it developed a “tumor” near the eye (at the bottom) however three vets said it was not the bad kind so we had it remove…however we can not be relaxed because would like to ask you if you have some kind of experience on it…also would you recommend a nice vet by the San Diego area (we didn’t like the way the “tumor” was removed seems like the dog has try to “scratch “ his eye and therefor cause the wound to reopen…what can you recommend us…
Also, could you recommend quality food for him and nutrients that would not make him “fat”
If you saw three different vets, I think you can feel secure that it is nothing to worry about. Dogs can get fatty fibers which are more common in certain breeds. But any dog can get them. I am sorry I don't know any vets in your area. But try googling and see if you can find one that specialized in greyhounds. They do have a different physiology and one more knowledgeable about Greyhounds is a good idea.
For the scratching maybe just leave the cone on for a while longer, while it is healing it will be itchy and until it's healed they will try to scratch. It is annoying but that's what they were designed for.
Regarding food, a healthier variety is always the better choice unless you go with the raw diet which is the best but is also a lot of work, so it depends what your life style will allow.
If your Greyhound is very active make sure he gets a lot of protein and make sure he gets enough exercise, running (sprint) this will burn any extra calories and keep him healthy.
And adding supplements to his diet is always helpful. A vet or a better pet food store can give you recommendations on food and supplements. Different cities have different varieties of food available, and there are a lot of local, organic pet food business popping up every where these days.
Love the name Coldplay btw...
I hope this helps.
